Armed Citizens 1, Criminals 0

The report from NewsNet5 in Wadsworth, Ohio, was scarcely considered news, ratingonly a few brief paragraphs: “A gun-carrying couple helped [police] catch a man who was allegedly beating his girlfriend in a parking lot in front of her two children…. Police said the couple, who each have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, called 911 [and] then pulled out their guns and ordered the man to the ground.”

Heather Evans told the 911 dispatcher, “My husband and I both have CCW license and we were in fear for her life, and we drew our weapons on him.” The attacker, Anthony Konopinski, is now facing domestic violence, child endangerment, resisting arrest, and drug paraphernalia charges.

Sig Sauer P238 – New Models

Well, considering how popular this little pistol is, it looks like Sig Sauer is expanding the line even further with their latest models…the Liberty and the Copperhead.  Both of them sport a touch of gold and both are highly unique and quite attractive.  This is a highly successful pistol reviewed here and one that takes the top spot in terms of quality when compared to the alternatives.  I still think the Equinox model reviewed here is the most appealing in terms of both design and features.

Why can’t 18-year-olds buy a handgun?

This is one of those laws I never could understand.  An 18 year old can go out and easily buy a shotgun but they can’t buy a handgun.  It just doesn’t make much sense.

Federal law prohibits a licensed gun dealer from selling a handgun to anyone under 21, although you can buy a rifle or shotgun at 18.

But is that constitutional? One teenager in Lubbock wants the courts to decide…

Firearm sales down a bit but remain strong

While the pace has slowed from the past two years, guns continue to sell at a robust clip even as consumer spending overall remains flat, retailers and industry experts say.

“Firearms sales have been at a fever pitch,” said Brian Rafn, a portfolio manager at Milwaukee-based Morgan Dempsey Capital Management. “It’s at peak and it’s staying at peak.” Among the investment company’s holdings is firearms manufacturer Sturm Ruger & Co.

In Wisconsin, the state Department of Justice handgun background check hotline had its busiest summer since the agency began tracking the numbers a decade ago.

“The last three months, June, July and August, calls to the hotline, which I assume would correspond very closely with sales, are running ahead of last year,” said Gary Hamblin, administrator of the Division of Law Enforcement Services. “And last year was a banner year.

Walther PPK – A Classic Marvel

A friend of mine lent me a gun for a few days that is a true classic when it comes to innovation and design.  I’m talking about none other than a genuine Walther PPK.  Bought 20 years ago and manufactured in Germany, this DA/SA pistol is  a classic .380 caliber pistol still in production today.  This model  is a combination of a PP frame and a PPK slide and barrel, developed to get around the “points” system put in place to prevent the importation of small guns.  It’s a marvel in design and one that remains as a highly respected option by many gun enthusiasts.
