ConcealThis Poll: 380 or 9mm for Daily Carry?

We have the Kel-Tec PF-9 and have now seen plenty of new micro 9mm pistols hit the market to compete with it.  This includes the new Sig P290, Ruger LC9 and Kimber Solo.  However, unless you’re wealthy and somewhat willing enough to own an expensive Rohrbaugh,  none of the 9mm offerings are truly pocket sized and remain a burden to carry on a daily basis.  They also weigh substantially more than a 380 pistol. Despite the focus by manufacturers to release smaller 9mm handguns, they are simply not at the same level or as popular for concealed carry as the smaller 380 options.  Despite this, and not fully understanding that the 380 ACP is a comparable and powerful round, many feel and will only carry a minimum of 9mm for self defense.  With that said, which do you truly carry daily?  This latest ConcealThis Poll determines which remains the most popular carry option.

Sig Sauer P238 – Even More New Models!

Based on site statistics, I can say that the Sig Sauer P238 is quite possibly the most popular 380 pistol on the market.  Many research this little beast and I’m sure many eventually purchase one.  It is that appealing for those looking to easily conceal a high quality handgun.  Apparently, this pistol has done well for Sig Sauer and a sign of this is the continued expansion via new models.  What have they done this time?  Well, they have released an additional two models, one of which sports a wicked design that is out of the norm for a pistol straight out of the factory.

First up is the P238 LADY.  This pistol sports a red “Ceracoat” alloy beavertail style frame with a Nitron finished slide and some engraving to enhance its overall feminine theme.  Quite a unique gun for the ladies!  Next up is the P238 Extreme.  This one features Hogue Extreme Series G-10 grips that I personally do not find appealing at all.  It is basically their Nitron model with some seriously ugly grips.  However, note that this is the only model they have that comes standard with a grip extension and 7 round magazine.

MasterPiece Arms Protector 380 Impressions

Went to my local gun show today solely in search of a hard to find new 380 pistol to hit the market in order to give you all my impressions.  I looked all over for one but did not have luck.  However, just as I was ready to leave, I finally spotted one on the way out!  I’m talking about the new Protector from MasterPiece Arms.

For those unfamiliar with this new handgun, the Protector is a remarkably small blowback pistol available in both 32 and 380 ACP.  First thing I noticed was just how heavy this tiny pistol really is. This is due to its solid Billet 4140 Heat Treated Steel.  This sets it apart from all the polymer framed pistols available on the market today.  It is listed at 11.3 ounces but feels a bit heavier when you hold it.  It is a very solid little pistol and of very high quality considering its very modest price tag.  I was quite impressed with its overall design and build quality.

Company Invents New Dramatically Different Bullet For Handguns

Now here is an interesting concept that I would like to eventually hit the market.  A bullet that expands like a spider web in three separate segments via Kevlar strings to ensure you hit your target.  Be sure to check out the demonstration video after the break.

Denver, CO --(Ammoland.com)- Recognizing that more than 90 percent of shots fired by handguns and hand-held firearms miss their targets, Advanced Ballistics Concepts, LLC (ABC), a ballistics research and development company, today announced the company has invented the first multi-part bullet that immediately unlocks and expands to a predetermined diameter and pattern of spread upon leaving the tip of a rifled barrel.

This new wide envelopment bullet – enhanced with ABC’s patent-pending Triple Threat Technology (T3) – significantly improves a shooter’s hit probability in ultra-close and mid-range engagements because the bullet produces a “spider web”-like effect prior to impact.

T3 bullets are similar to multi-pellet buckshot in that both deliver multiple strike points. However, a T3 round enhances performance because the bullet expands up to 4x faster than buckshot. The bullet design also allows each segment to have a greater mass which in turn produces greater stopping power.

T3 is the first bullet to interconnect three separate segments with Kevlar strings that expand like a spider web to a predetermined diameter and spread pattern that not only dramatically improves the accuracy and hit probability, but does so without disrupting the normal flight path of a spinning bullet. T3 bullets employ a proprietary “accelerated radial spread” that compensates for most, if not all, of typical shooter error.

ConcealThis Poll: How Much Would You Pay for a 1911?

If you are a 1911 lover like myself, you know how expensive these handguns can be.  A custom or loaded 1911 can put a deep hole in your wallet.  However, there are manufacturers like Taurus that offer full-featured models that will fit your budget.  Their PT1911 reviewed here is a perfect example.  You don’t really have to resort to Colt, Kimber, Les Baer, Para or Springfield to name a few.  The options seem endless and so are their price tags.

With that said, what will you be willing to pay for your favorite 1911 pistol?  We hope to get an idea in this latest ConcealThis poll.

Ruger Introduces LC9 Lightweight Compact 9mm Pistol

Well it looks like Ruger is really trying hard to compete well with Kel-Tec.  First they release the LCP, a sort of clone to the .380 P-3AT and now they just introduced the LC9, a compact 9mm pistol with somewhat similar specs to the PF-9.  The major difference is weight, which no other manufacturer has been able to match Kel-Tec.  If only this one doesn’t have such a terribly long trigger pull as their .380 LCP, perhaps it is at least one to look into.  More info on its release below…

Southport, CT --(Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), announces the LC9, a lightweight, compact 9mm pistol for discreet carry by law abiding citizens, or a full-power, no-compromise backup for off-duty law enforcement officers.

This highly requested pistol was developed through Ruger’s Voice of the Customer program and incorporates the features and rugged reliability desired by Ruger customers.

The LC9 has a 3.12″ barrel, is 6.0″ long and 4.5″ tall, making for a very compact 9mm pistol. The LC9 is impressively narrow at a mere .90″ wide, and weighs only 17.1 ounces with an empty magazine.

Featuring a black polymer (glass-filled nylon) frame and blued alloy steel slide and barrel, the lightweight, full-featured Ruger LC9 offers the versatility and capability of the popular 9mm cartridge in a highly compact, reliable, and user-friendly pistol.
