Ruger SR9c – range report and review

There’s no doubt the SR9c from Ruger is a popular handgun.  You have an very inexpensive handgun built around quality expected from Ruger.  While I don’t consider it a suitable daily carry handgun, it’s an excellent home defense option many new gun owners may want to consider.  Here’s a short but sweet review on what has been considered the 2010 handgun of the year.

I have a friend who keeps telling me not to buy “cheap” guns.  I just can’t help myself.  I’m a sucker for a bargain.  And the Ruger SR9c just happens to be one of those bargain 9mm pistols I’m happy I bought. It comes in at a hair under $400 in my neck of the woods.  Any day you can buy a nice shooting, reliable pistol for under $400 is a good day, particularly in this economy.

After a day at the range I’m happy to report that the pistol performed flawlessly with a variety of different ammunition brands.  No FTE’s, FTF’s.  The gun certainly needs a few hundred more rounds run through it to be fully broken in, but at this point I’m happy with the performance.  The trigger felt decent and the gun felt comfortable in my hands.  The sights are pronounced and easy to acquire.  Recoil was acceptable as well.

Mixed opinions on guns in bars

COLUMBUS – Ohio is one step closer to allowing gun owners to carry concealed weapons into bars, restaurants and other public places that serve alcohol.

The Ohio House approved legislation last week to relax state law wherever alcohol is served, including sports stadiums, unless their owners disagree.

Any establishment – including arenas or stadiums that serve alcohol – can continue posting signs at entrances if it wants to ban weapons. State-owned properties and universities would remain off limits for guns.

One Marion bar owner said he doesn’t think the change will be a problem.

“Not at all, as long as they abide by the law and it’s people that’s not drinking at all,” Bill Beechum said, owner of Wild Bill’s on South Main Street.

“I don’t see that there’s anything to be scared of,” he said.

Diamondback DB380 Gets Night Sights

I have been calling and checking their website for months and was pleasantly surprised today to finally find some Trijicon night sights up on their site for the Diamondback DB380.  It is listed as out of stock at the moment, but it shouldn’t be long before they are available.  According to their website, they do offer installation and the modest price includes shipping back via Priority Mail.

One nice feature of this pocket pistol are the excellent sights.  Now it appears that we finally have night sights available that many happy owners will be quite pleased with.

If you missed our review, you can find it here, along with plenty of mixed comments from many who own it.

New Sig Sauer 1911-22 Pistol

What a pleasant surprise when visiting the Sig Sauer Website today.  I have showed you a couple of 1911 .22 caliber pistols here before.  One was the Chiappa, which I strongly do not recommend (poor build quality) and the other was one full-featured pistol from Umarex which did look promising.  Now, we have a well-known and respected manufacturer releasing its own 1911 .22 pistol and this one is worth a serious look.  Judging by the pictures, it is a full-featured 1911 converted to fire .22 caliber rounds.  It is a beauty. No word on pricing, but being a Sig, expect to pay a bit more for it than both cheap options mentioned above.

Here are the details from their website…

The 1911-22 is built to the same dimensions as the full-sized 1911 pistol. It features a lightweight metal frame and slide, low-profile three-dot sights, working grip safety and ambidextrous thumb safety, making the 1911-22 a perfect training tool for 1911 fans as well as a fun plinking pistol for all ages.

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- The April 2011 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 843,484 is an increase of 15.2 percent over the NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 731,955 in April 2010.

For comparison, the unadjusted April 2011 NICS figure of 1,339,673 is an increase of 9.2 percent over the unadjusted NICS figure of 1,226,760 in April 2010.

This marks the eleventh straight month-over-month increase in NSSF-adjusted NICS figures.

The adjusted NICS data was derived by NSSF by subtracting out all NICS purpose code permit checks used by several states such as Kentucky, Iowa and Utah for CCW permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW permit databases.
