Boberg XR9 Shorty

Guns.com has a review on the Boberg XR9.  This is honestly one of the worst pocket pistols I have ever seen.  I would have to strongly disagree with the editor stating it is “well designed”.  This is exactly the kind of junk that only the super rich get lured into.  With a ridiculous price tag just under $1,000, this is clearly not a pistol for the wise or rather smart consumer.  The company claims it is “the world’s most powerful 9mm pocket pistol.”  Think about that for a minute.  It is a pathetic attempt at marketing the product.  In fact, as much as I also detest the Rohrbaugh, I will take their R9 over this one any day if I had this much money to not spend wisely.

The Boberg XR9 Shorty is a small-frame semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm and 9mm +P. The company says that the Shorty is “the world’s most powerful 9mm pocket pistol.” It is designed with some pretty heavy duty materials such as a 7075-T6 aluminum alloy for the frame, which was actually designed for planes in the 40s because of its lightweight and toughness. The material has since become a favorite for building other modes of transportation like cars, bikes, hang gliders, et cetera. Most other components on the Shorty are of stainless steel construction.

The Shorty features a double-action only trigger that sets off the action with a 5.5-pound pull. It has a locked-breech system with a rotating barrel meaning the gun fixed to the frame until it discharges a round. As the slide goes back the barrel will rotate instead of tilting. This design helps improve accuracy. The locked-breech means that the slide absorbs the backwards force rather than the frame. This is beneficial for heavier loads.

World’s Smallest and Lightest .45 ACP Pistol?

According to a new company by the name of  Heizer Defense LLC, they are set to release such a pocket pistol to both civilians and law enforcement market.  While this pistol sure looks sweet, there are pros and cons to it that most should note before getting too excited here.  First off are the pros and that is clear when you simply look at the picture above. For one, don’t be fooled by the pic thinking it is just another polymer pocket pistol.  This one claims to sport a Titanium frame…yes, Titanium.  The next thing to grab your attention is obviously its excellent snag-free, ultra-slim design. Finally, note that lots of thought was apparently put into it that it does sport ported barrels to help reduce recoil based on such a lightweight weapon of this caliber.

All this sounds great so what’s the catch?  Well, hence its name as “DoubleTap”, it only supports two .45 ACP caliber rounds. No, there’s no magazine under that impressive frame.  Think of it like a glorified Derringer pistol.  Unless you’re a truly skilled shooter under a highly stressed or critical situation, two rounds may simply not offer the peace of mind mostly all other pocket pistols tend to offer.  In addition, the company based out of Missouri states it focuses highly on quality and set to release ultra high-end pocket pistols to the market.  With that said, you can expect a rather high price tag.

I’m highly curious to find out how much it will indeed cost and also its overall availability.  In the meantime, you can drool over the pic above.
