Citadel 1911 .22 Tactical Pistol

For those 1911 fans out there, here’s yet another .22 caliber offering from Citadel.  I’ve shown you a couple of other options here which looked quite good, the most impressive design from Umarex.  However, this 1911-22 Tactical Pistol is certainly comes in a very close second in terms of not only its design, but its price tag as well.  It sports all the features you would expect, yet it has a MSRP of $337.  That includes some nice fiber optic sights.  However, after taking a look at this beauty, I was quite intrigued and decided to go online and actually did find a few sources that state they have them in stock.  One of these actually had it for only $289!  You just can’t beat that.  Nice economical practice pistol for sure.

Shot Show 2012 Auction – Glock 22 Statue of Liberty

All you hardcore Glock lovers out there will likely find this quite interesting.  The Shot Show 2012 auction is a highly custom “Statue of Liberty” Glock 22.  It is currently active on Gunbroker.com and you’ll be quite shocked at the current highest bid.  There has been 24 bids so far and the price tag is up to a whopping $8,026.  That’s bad enough but to make things even worse, there are just under 35 days left before the auction ends!  I just can’t imagine how much this gun will eventually sell for.

Bersa BP9cc Concealed Carry 9mm Pistol

While I personally do not find them to be of interest, I do know that many people do love Bersa handguns.  I’ve met a few who have them and they absolutely swear by them.  While they are not necessarily pleasing to the eye from a design standpoint, they are known to be accurate, reliable, and best of all…inexpensive.  Their very modest price tags are what seem to appeal most to many new gun owners.

Eagle Imports, importers of  Bersa firearms,  has just expanded their product line by introducing the BP9 Concealed Carry Pistol.  This 9mm pistol happens to be the very first polymer offering from the company.  It is basically the alternative to their Thunder CC, which is a .380 pistol that is really not that much smaller or lighter in comparison.  That’s where the BP9′s polymer frame comes into play and possibly why they chose to venture into this competitive market.  Not sure I’m intrigued by its overall size and weight for daily carry.  For many, it simply may be too large to carry comfortably.

The Bersa BP9 CC is a double action pistol that sports a “short reset trigger” according to the manufacturer.  I could not find any credible information on its actual trigger pull though so I’m not sure how light and smooth that trigger is.  This 9mm model provides 8+1 capacity.  Not sure what they will actually cost, as I have not really found them available just yet.  However, after some research, I did find just one online source that had this one listed at only $389.

Kel-Tec PF-9 .22 Conversion Kit

This is a rather nice surprise.  For those of you who own a Kel-Tec PF-9, there is a company by the name Twisted Industries that has just released a .22 caliber conversion kit for this excellent handgun.  Visit the source link below from Guns.com.  As the author does state, this gun is not necessarily fun to shoot at all.  It is extremely light and can be unpleasant to shoot for long periods of time.  I couldn’t agree more.  As they also state, the trigger on the PF-9 is actually pretty damn good and very smooth.  It is long though and will take some practice.  A .22 conversion kit for this handgun will allow you to not only practice more comfortably to get a feel for the trigger, but also save you a bunch of money as well.  However, I do think the kit is a bit too expensive though.  Should be cheaper.

Beretta Nano vs Ruger LC9 @ Guns

Guns.com has a comparison of these two new 9mm pistols.  A video is included as well.  Although note that these really aren’t considered pocket pistols as they state.  These are in a new breed of micro 9mm pistols that are now growing in popularity.  They are simply too large to slip into your pocket.  For that, you must stick with a .380.

If you ever find yourself in a gun store or in a forum and you ask what is the perfect pocket pistol? you’ll get a variety of answers. People will spout out exact brands and models, or start matching designs with use. But just about all the answers include something with a three-inch barrel, a rather comfortable short grip, and chambered for either .380 or 9mm—mostly 9mm. And two frontrunners fitting that basic description are the Beretta Nano and the Ruger LC9. Actually, they do more than just fit the description. Right now they are the quintessential pocket pistols in terms of brand, design and price.

I’m a big fan of both guns and recently I had them in my possession to review, so I felt it was my duty as a gun writer to compare the two.

Why gun sales spiked on Black Friday

I never thought about a gun when it comes to Black Friday.  Do dealers or retailers really offer huge discounts on this day?  Are they even open to begin with?  According to the number of background checks on this particular day, the results actually broke records.

Americans spent some $52 billion on Black Friday weekend. In addition to sweaters and iPods, though, shoppers were scooping up something else in large numbers: guns.

According to the FBI, which processes requests for background checks of prospective gun buyers, 129,166 such checks were performed on Black Friday, Nov. 25, breaking the previous single-day record — set on Black Friday 2008 — by nearly a third. The surge in gun sales was initially reported by USA Today.

Analysts who focus on firearms say this increase is part of a years-long trend toward increasing gun ownership. In a recent Gallup poll, 47 percent of respondents said there was a gun in the household, up from 41 percent just one year ago.

More people are buying guns these days, particularly handguns, said Cai von Rumohr, managing director at investment company Cowen & Co. For all of November, the number of background checks processed by the FBI rose by around 16 percent vs. year-ago levels.

Force Science News – A Criminal Study

A friend of mine just sent me this.  It is not only an interesting read, but one I’m personally not shocked about.  What many law abiding citizens that carry handguns fail to accept is the fact that criminals can indeed be skilled shooters.  I know this for a fact based on frequent gun range visits and staff telling me who comes in and out of the range.  As this particular article does state, some of these pathetic criminals actually practice more than law enforcement in most cases.  They learn to develop skills that only result in  unfortunate circumstances.

Anyways,

Here’s the full article sent to me…

Everyone, here is the highlights of what Force Science News learned about weapon selection, familiarity, transport and use by criminals attempting to murder cops, a small portion of the overall research:

WEAPON CHOICE.

Predominately handguns were used in the assaults on officers and all but one were obtained illegally, usually in street transactions or in thefts. In contrast to media myth, none of the firearms in the study was obtained from gun shows. What was available “was the overriding factor in weapon choice,” the report says. Only 1 offender hand-picked a particular gun “because he felt it would do the most damage to a human being.”

Researcher Davis, in a presentation and discussion for the International Assn. of Chiefs of Police, noted that none of the attackers interviewed was “hindered by any law–federal, state or local–that has ever been established to prevent gun ownership. They just laughed at gun laws.”
