MasterPiece Arms Protector II Pistol New for 2012

Back in November of 2010, Masterpiece Arms started shipping that tiny Protector pistol that has become quite popular since its release.  Still, it doesn’t seem that many are too familiar with it.  We covered it here and I also held one at a Gun Show and gave my impressions here, where you will also find comments from readers that own one.

Now it seems that they are set to release the Protector II Pistol, which does bring a few enhancements that are said to be a result of feedback from customers.  This new 2012 model does not appear to be on their official website yet but from what AmmoLand has gathered, this new model sports a beavertail style grip, square serrations on slide and best of all for such a small pistol with a bit of a punch, it apparently is now ported for more pleasant shooting and a bit less recoil.  I could not find much else on it, but this pistol has apparently done well for them that they have focused on expanding the line with new models.  These pistol are also modestly priced and of very high quality, based on my experience with them so far.

Why I don’t Like the Glock (and Other Striker Fired Guns)

I do agree with the author of this article.  It is how I have personally felt for years actually.  However, there is one pistol that was just too enticing, that I gave in and now happily own and carry, despite my lack of interest in such a pistol.  That is the Diamondback DB380 I reviewed here.

Before I begin, I’d like to ask everyone to take a deep breath and keep in mind that some of the posts I author are intended to convey lessons that I have learned over the last year or so of my admittedly brief tenure as a member of the fellowship of the gun. Over that period, I have purchased a number of different guns and learned a lot about what I like and what I don’t. Whether you agree with me or not, please remember that as I’m discussing what works for me personally, there is no right or wrong answer. What works for me may or may not work for you. That said, let the freak out begin . . .

HK P2000 US Duty Pistol (LEM) Review

The other day my brother-in-law the federal LEO stopped by for a visit. I fully and publicly admit that I struggle with jealousy at my BIL’s ability to carry in all fifty states, in airports and on airplanes. As usual, we shot the breeze about politics and guns. My bonhomie was rewarded: I got to fondle, ogle and shoot a few rounds from his federally issued HK P2000 .40 cal . . .

Back in 2005, Heckler & Koch won a contract with the feds to produce the P2000 line of pistols for the U.S government. It was one of the biggest single federal law enforcement pistol contracts ever; in the order of $26.2m. There are a lot of these guns out there in the hands of Uncle Sam’s paramilitary pros.

The P2000 comes in all sorts of flavors: double action/single action, decocking and safety lever; double action/single action, decocking lever, but no safety; double action only, with safety lever; double action only, no control lever; double action/single action, safety lever, but no decocking. I sampled variant number 9, the gun blessed with the LEM (Law Enforcement Modification) or Combat Defense Action (CDA) trigger.
