Fingerprints to be required for future ammo purchases
I personally would never live in California for many obvious reasons. However, those that do know that this is one of the worst states any gun enthusiast/owner can possibly live in. To add to the misery, here’s the latest absurd law that will certainly irritate many further. There’s actually one line you’ll want to also make note of and that is that this new law also bans all mail-order and Internet sales of ammunition and reloading components. Yeah, you can only wonder what’s next!
A new state law that requires firearm dealers to fingerprint people who buy bullets protects gun owners as well as the public, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said during a ceremonial signing in Los Angeles last week.
Assembly Bill 962 requires firearms dealers and ammunition stores to keep a registry of their handgun ammunition sales – including the identification and fingerprints of the buyers – and make it available to law enforcement agencies starting February 2011.
It also bans all mail-order and Internet sales of ammunition and reloading components.
He had vetoed similar bills before, questioning their effectiveness in ensuring public safety. But he signed the latest bill into law in Sacramento last Sunday and held a ceremonial signing at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Metropolitan Dispatch Unit, where he explained his change of heart.
“Now we have the evidence,” Schwarzenegger said. “More than a dozen cities across California have enacted record-keeping laws for ammunition, and their success is clear and undeniable.”
The Governor said over the last two years, similar legislation in Sacramento has led to the arrest of 200 dangerous criminals who were not legally entitled to own firearms and ammunition.

I am all for mental health testing of anyone purchasing a gun under any circumstance and having to provide ID to buy ammo. Sorry folks but there too many psychos as we have seen at Ft Hood and if you have been to any gun show lately there are some real loose cannons walking around there too who have access to gun ownership. I believe that anyone found guilty of committing a crime with a handgun or committing a crime with any priors and a handgun even like being a gang member should serve a minimum of 50 years. Yeh, I am hard core but it might eliminate a couple of crazies from getting their hands on guns. Of course severe consequences never prevented psychos and career criminals from committing crimes but if caught they can be taken out of society for a long time. We should not make it easy for non law abiding citizens to perpetrate a crime on those of us who are.
